2007 Ellis Island and World Trade Center Adventure

Picture

August 2007 we (Lindsey, me and Lisa) went to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.  We stayed in NJ, just north of Liberty Park.  There's a great little diner just before you enter Liberty Park......

This is a shot of the Statue of Liberty as we were leaving to sneak to Battery Park in Manhatten.

The architecture of the main building at Ellis Island is beautiful.

This is the second floor. This area was filled with rows and rows of chairs where the immigrants would wait once processed.

This is the main entrance of Ellis Island, the main building. This is where the immigrants were herded to upon their arrival off the boats.
We wanted to go to the World Trade Center site, so we accidently on purpose boarded the ferry for Manhatten.  We acosted a taxi and went to the site.  We nearly missed the ferry back to the Statue of Liberty....  The men who work for the ferry were not amused that 3 'dumb' tourists got ont he wrongferry in the first place.  We played it off and got back to the right place.
These pictures are of 'Ground Zero'.  They were taken from an overlook point.  The area huge, but looks so small.  We could see workers down in the area, and they were tiny ants.  The area had many fire trucks standing by and police cars just sitting around.

They were friendly and cordial to visitors.  I think they may have been there to maybe counsel any police or fire personnel who came to see the horrific effects of September 11.

We also walked by the fire house right near this scene.  A handful of really handsome firemen were standing out side greeting tourists and having their pictures taken.  They had just lost a few men in another tragedy, the Deutsch Bank fire, just next door to the World Trade Center and their fire house.
